Mahlathini Private Game Reserve is a 1200ha residential wildlife estate situated 7km north of Phalaborwa. It borders both the Kruger National Park and the 45 000ha Letaba Ranch, which opens onto the Kruger Park. Situated off the beaten track on an exclusive 21ha portion of Mahlathini Private Game Reserve, Shikumbu represents the epitome of privacy in an overcrowded world. The lodge, with a total of 5 en-suite bedrooms, is comprised of 3 separate chalets, which represent the 3 kopjes of this ancestrally important site. The design of the Lodge’s towering thatch roofs was inspired by the tall spires of termite mounds that abound in this region. The lodge overlooks a waterhole adjacent to the Kruger Park fence line. A variety of resident game including leopard, jackal, hyena, buffalo, kudu, eland, zebra and giraffe visit the waterhole to drink.
